General Information
“4 Sutherland” is a general medical/surgical unit, whose specialties include:
- Cardiology
- Cardiovascular surgery
- Hepatology, including liver failure and liver transplant
We are a 24-bed unit. All patient rooms are private and configured in a “pod” layout to reduce noise and increase nurse visibility. Think of a 3-leaf clover with 8 beds in each leaf – that is the configuration of our unit. Each pod has its own medication, nutrition, storage, linen, and dirty utility room, as well as a nurses’ station for the Staff Nurses and Care Assistants working on that pod.
Patients range in age from neonates to 18 years. We occasionally treat young adults.
We work with the “Blue Team” – one of our general medical teams composed of resident and attending physicians. We also work with our subspecialty pediatric medical and surgical teams: CV Surgery, Hepatology, and Liver Transplant.
