Children's Mercy and Mexico Announce Agreement for Reciprocal Education and Referral Programs
Mexico’s Secretary of Health, Dr. José Ángel Córdova, visited Children’s Mercy to sign an agreement to exchange medical, nursing and administrative personnel; establish pediatric continuing education opportunities; conduct medical research; and develop a joint referral system for patients. This new agreement with Mexico will complement our existing International Patient program, which is a paid program that facilitates access for international children to the most advanced pediatric services and care available at Children’s Mercy.

Children’s Mercy is a leader in treating pediatric cancer, caring for more than 85% of all newly diagnosed children with cancer in our region. With 16 physicians specializing in pediatric hematology/oncology, including four dedicated to bone marrow transplant, our expertise is unmatched in the region.

Fighting the Flu with Facts
Children’s Mercy has launched a new web site, www.childrensflucenter.org, to provide parents with a one-stop source of information on seasonal flu and H1N1. The site includes answers to commonly asked questions, videos, articles and links to additional resources.

Children’s Mercy brings the latest in cardiovascular X-ray technology to its pediatric patients
Children’s Mercy is the first pediatric hospital in the U.S. with cardiac catheterization labs featuring vascular X-ray systems with next generation AIP technology. Children’s Mercy will utilize the systems for numerous clinical applications, including cardiac catheterizations, interventional procedures, electrophysiologic studies, device implantation and general diagnostic imaging. With the new Infinix systems, the medical center is now performing hybrid procedures that bring multiple clinical experts together in the operating room to offer a complete and collaborative medical solution.

Children’s Mercy announces that Dev Maulik, MD, PhD, FACOG, FRCOG will be the director of the hospital’s Fetal Health Center. The center, created in cooperation with the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, will provide integrated, multidisciplinary care for infants with serious congenital birth defects before, during and after delivery.

Researchers find mandatory influenza vaccine among health care workers favorable
Researchers at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics found that 70 percent of their employees were in favor of mandatory influenza vaccinations among health care workers. The research was published in the January issue of the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.
